Elsag Datamat (ED) is a recent company resulting from the merging of former Elsag S.p.A. and Datamat S.p.A. and is part of the Finmeccanica Group. Both former companies have a really strong background in the participation to European research programmes with tens of Projects some of them also under their coordination since Fourth Framework Programme up to the Seventh one where four Projects are currently under ICT call 1 negotiation (one of them under Elsag Datamat coordination) and six Projects are under SEC call 1 negotiation (one of them under Elsag Datamat coordination). A short list of some of them follows.
SHIDESS Project realized a decision support system for predictive maintenance on board of ships. ED coordinated the project and was directly involved in the analysis and fusion of collected data and in the development of the decision support components. HEARTS Project was coordinated by ED and was focused implemented a complete solution for the early diagnosis of health diseases with a special focus on cardiovascular ones. Inside this Project a “personal health network” composed of wearable biomedical sensors and handheld devices was realized. The gathered data were instantaneously transmitted via wireless communication technologies to a centralized monitor platform. The so collected biomedical information were in real time processed by a decision support layer being able to early individuate potential diseases. ED was directly involved in all the technological aspects and mainly in the implementation of the personal health network and of the automatic diagnosis components. ISCAPS Project realized an innovative surveillance system for improving security in crowded areas. ED team was directly involved in the design and implementation of the whole test bed and demonstrative environment, with a special focus on communication and data collection features. The team also realized software components for the real-time automatic extraction of semantic contents from video streaming. EuQoS Project is focused on end-to-end QoS to be delivered over heterogeneous networks, including wireless ones. This has been a project that addresses important aspects, such as the problem of QoS delivery in a mixed network. ED had been leader of implementation WP. WEIRD Project is focused on wireless optimized usage for delivering services. Again QoS plays an important role as resource-demanding applications shall be enabled to configure wireless channel QoS in order to benefit of services. This project had been coordinated by ED. INTERSECTION addresses the objective of Pervasive and Trusted Network and Service Infrastructures aiming at introducing novel solutions for improving the security and resiliency of interdependent and interconnected communication infrastructures. The Project is coordinated by ED. More briefly we would like to mention: EGERIS (On-field operations support by advanced ICT based on mobile and fixed equipment); FORMIDABLE, EGERIS, OASIS, ORCHESTRA, CHORIST, DEWS (Risk and Crisis Management); EU-DataGrid, SpaceGRID, EGEE, CrossGrid, The VOICE, AKoGriMo, NextGRID (Grid Technology) Elsag Datamat is also involved in other European R&D related activities. Among other: WINEA: Huge Network Wireless Connectivity for Autonomous Remote Multi-Sensing System (EDA, Consortium currently admitted to the final selection phase; IPANEMA: IPv6 Protocols Applied to NEtworks in Military Applications (EUCLID; ITEM: Internet Technology for Military Communications (EUCLID); LARA: Secure Wireless Network for Real-time Military Applications in a Network-Centric Warfare Environment (EUCLID); INSC: Interoperable Network for Secure Communication (NATO Sponsored Projects); MODULA: Modular Approach to the Development of C3I Systems; modular architectures, middlewares, protocols and designs (MDA) (PNRM-EUCLID); OPEN-FreMIS: Use of Open Source Software for C4I Applications; Open Standards, protocols, data formats; Extensibility of Systems and Tools (PNRM-EUCLID);CAM: Military Medical Training Centre (PNRM); MED_LOG: Decision Support System for Medical Assets Planning in Operational Area (EUCLID) Finally it has to be highlighted that thanks to the above and to other initiatives, ED has already worked with most of the organizations involved in the current Project, so establishing an efficient and effective cooperation. |
