COPAL

The Technische Universitaet Wien (TUW) has released as open source the core component they have developed for the project: COPAL (COntext Provisioning for ALl). COPAL is a runtime system for context provisioning. COPAL provides a new programming model and features a composable architecture to integrate new context sources, create new information models, and support various information processing requirements of context-aware services. Essential context attributes are supported but services can add their own attributes and corresponding processing actions.

COPAL runs under the OSGi Equinox framework and provides a REST interface to interact with event producers and consumers. The software has been released under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3. Sources and documentation can be downloaded at: COPAL

Semantic Repository

The Royal Institue of Technology (KTH) has released the Semantic Repository, as open source software. The Semantic Repository stores knowledge about the system such as devices, proxies, services, variables and goals. Different components of the SM4All architecture interacts with the Semantic Repository to access and update this information.

The Semantic Repository is a Java component that offers a REST interface to its clients. The software sources plus documentation is already available at Link. The compiled libraries are currently only available through the internal SM4All servers, but will also be released to the public soon.

ViSi Tool

The University of Groningen (RUG) is planning to release the ViSi tool. It is a visualization tool to simulate and visualize the home environments based on Google SketchUp and Ruby, which is fully compliant with the SM4All architecture. Its purpose is to ease the testing of complex domotic systems.

The ViSi tool is able to visualize a home with its corresponding domotic devices such as TV, lights, doors, windows, fridge, smoke sensors, etc. The tool can either simulate the devices or interact with the real devices through the SM4All Pervasive Layer. Devices can be operated from the tool and their status changes are visualized. For instance, when a light is switched on the tool visualizes the light as being turned on. The user is also simulated, being possible to change its location in the house.

The ViSi tool is also integrated with the SM4All Composition Layer making it to possible to test service compositions by the invokation of goals. The tool shows how devices are operated by the system. As soon as the source code is made available it will be accessible from the SM4All web site.
